I admire and support Tunica Humane Society, Tunica, Mississippi!
I feel that they are VERY deserving of any help mainly because they don't turn any animal away and they are a 'No Kill' shelter! They love and care for many dogs (and kitties), even many that are considered 'unadoptable' by many shelter standards.
Tunica Humane Society is mainly run by two sisters (who also both hold FULL TIME jobs!) and by volunteers! It's hard to describe ALL that they do. The shelter is totally run on donations, and is in a VERY depressed area of the country. That is difficult, to say the least!
When I have gone there to volunteer, it seems they're always dealing with a 'heartbreaking situation' - Puppies with parvo, abuse cases, abandoned dogs, dogs and boxes of kittens left tied to their fence or door. Then they'll have 'happy cases' - Where they have reunited a lost pet with their guardians or when they adopt a pet to a loving home.
They've gone out to farmers' fields, wading through knee high mud - to try and 'lure' a skittish stray to safety. Crawled under many a dilapidated structure - to save some sick puppies - or a sick adult dog.
They offer advice and assistance to someone who may be disadvantaged, to enable them to keep and care for a loved pet; such as a Senior Citizen, versus giving them up to a kill shelter or euthanizing them. It seems they're always helping families to foster, relocate or re-home a pet whose guardian recently passed, or developed allergies.
