Wellness Dog Food is well recognized as one of the top dog food brands, by experts and various other consumer reports on dog food. They often appear on top 10 best dog food lists, and have been reviewed and approved by the Whole Dog Journal.
The Wellness philosophy is on natural holistic dog food recipes, free of artificial chemical preservatives, additives, or by-products. Their focus is on hypoallergenic dog food so they are free of wheat, corn, and soy and, in addition, they use vegetable fats only.
Wellness is a human grade dog food, comprised of hormone and antibiotic free meats, and their top dog foods are rich in vitamins and chelated minerals, probiotics, and Omega three and Omega six fatty acids. They do not currently produce an organic dog food line.
The representative told us the vast majority of their dog food ingredients are sourced from the US and Canada, or from New Zealand, Australia and Belgium.
Their Vitamin C and Taurine is from China, and is then tested at their plants to ensure they are 100% pure ingredients. In addition, they test each and every batch of their final dog foods. Independent laboratories are used in some cases, as necessary.
Wellness dog food is owned by Wellpet LLC, based in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. Wellpet is the result of a merger in early 2009 between Eagle Pack dog food and Old Mother Hubbard dog food (the owners of the Wellness brand).
Their dog foods are manufactured by: Hagen Pet Foods, Waverly, NY; CJ Foods, Bern, KS; American Nutrition, Inc, Ogden, UT; and Diamond Pet Foods, Gaston, SC.
The representative also told us that there have been absolutely no Wellness dog food formula changes since the merger, nor was she aware of any future plans.
